Indy 7 is a crew launch off (CV-62) USS Aircraft Carrier Independence built at the Brooklyn Navy in 1955. Indy was used primarily to shuttle supplies and crew to and from the shore but had the unique honor of sailing worldwide with her mother ship. In 1980 Indy was taken over by Hudson River Cruises in round out creek. Twelve years later, Indy 7 got her coast guard approval and was used for hourly tours to the Kingston lighthouse. Indy was subsequently sold to Captain Donald Taube. Indy 7 was donated to the NY Harbor school by captain Taube’s family to continue the traditions of education and history. Indy 7 serves as the school’s primary training vessel for our Career and Technical Educations programs and the Billion Oyster project restoration initiatives.
