Meet Capt. Roy Love was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and moved to the United States in 1983. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1988, attended the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) Program in San Diego, California, in 1989, and graduated from the State University of New York Maritime College, where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Marine Transportation. He received his NAVAL commission in 1993 and qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer in 1994. ). He attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. He earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies and completed his Joint Professional Military Education in 2008.
1. Why did you choose this person? Give an example of what has inspired you about them. *
What inspired me about him is that he is a caption that is Mexican. And there were times where other people acted like he was a lower-ranked person on his vessel, but once they found out he was the captain, they would look shocked and apologize right away. But every time this happened to him, he lever let it affect him/tear him down.
2. What challenges do you think this person faced during their career? Reflect on how they overcome those challenges. *
Some challenges he might have faced are racism and unfair treatment. He probably overcomes those challenges by using the hate he gets to fuel him to be the best person he can be.
3. What advice do you think your person would give to young people going into their fields? *
Don't let anyone or anything get your way. Always persevere and keep believing in your goal. Never give up through hard times because eventually, you will reach the light at the end of the tunnel.

I don't think I would pursue his pathway. At this moment, I don't know what path I want to pursue.
