Trip To Mein Schiff 1

I am a junior that attends one of the best schools in New York City, The Urban Assembly New York Harbor School and the Vessel operations program. On October 3, 2019, my Vessel ops class went on a trip to visit a nice cruise ship and to go meet Captain Tod Brugman. We toke Blue Fox from governors island to New Jersey. We were a little late so we had to go in a hurry. We were going at least 56 knots or 60 MPH. It was also raining that day so it made it feel more dramatic when we were getting ready to leave for the cruise. We left Governors Island at 1:00 pm and we got there at 1:15 pm. It took 15 minutes to get to the cruise. As we were driving to the boat my hands were wet and cold from the rain, and the water from the harbor but the wind was what made my hands feel numb. When we got closer to the boat I was amazed because I’ve never been so close to a cruise, and I’ve never been on one so I got the two for one feeling. When entering the building to go through security, everyone got through and now we’re on the boat. The inside had this hazelnut scent and it was refreshing. Then we got to the wheelhouse. That is where the captain drives the boat. We were there for about 1 hour and 30 mins getting a nice tour around. We didn’t get a chance to go into the engine room. After that, when left. My first time a cruise and we got some German ice cream I got hazelnut and a fudge cake flavors. The overall experience was a success. I learned that the cruise doesn’t use tugs to dock anymore because of the bow and stern thrusters and a lot more.
