Asher Momplaisir
The New York Harbor School has 8 CTEs (Career and Technical Education) one of them being Vessel Operations. Vessel Operations prepares students for management and operating positions on small passenger vessels and commercial towing units. Today I'll be interviewing Asher Momplaisir, a Harbor School Alumni, class of 2025.
Asher currently goes to SUNY Maritime and is majoring in Marine Operations. He graduated high school while working with five companies outside of New York Harbor School. His experience included serving as a Waterfront Intern with the Billion Oyster Project, working as a deckhand for New York Harbor Tours, being a dockhand at Pier 25, working with private charter companies, and serving as a deckhand for NYC Ferry. Showing his great Linehanding Navigation and People skills.
Asher was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society and received the Captain’s Award for both merit and technical accomplishments and was also selected as the principal speaker for his graduating class.
After moving on to college at SUNY Maritime, Asher was featured in the MUG Monday Spotlight, which highlights freshmen with strong achievements. During that same time, he earned his Open Water Scuba Diving certification and made the Fall 2025 Presidential List with a GPA above 3.5.
I chose Asher because he inspired me to start boating and showed me what was possible after high school. I would also like to closely follow in his footsteps when I graduate and major in Marine Operations.
